Professor Philip Boyd
Main Research Interests
- Algal physiology
- Biogeochemistry of trace metals in the ocean, especially iron, and their impacts on algal productivity
Current Research Projects
Biogeochemistry of iron and its effects on algal productivity. 2 years from July 1, 2000: Philip Boyd (NIWA) and Russell Frew. This project is funded by NIWA through subcontracting and NSOF funding, and is concerned with defining the role of trace metals, particularly iron, as essenital factors controlling the productivity of NZ waters. A recent highlight was a leading role played by our group in the iron enrichment experiment carried out in the Southern Ocean (SOIREE).
